I grew up in Dorset, went to schools on the Purbecks and in Sherborne, and returned home to walk the dogs along the cliff-tops whenever I could. I often took a camera, and bought my first film SLR when I was about 12. I didn’t have to wait long before digital arrived and my hobby became even more interesting. After a fling with corporate life in the City, my memories turned to the endless David Attenborough wildlife documentaries I had watched in earlier years, and my mind began to wonder and wander. In 2009, I made a fairly dramatic career move, and set myself up in a camp deep in the Luangwa Valley, a wildlife hotspot in Eastern Zambia. Alongside camp management, maintenance and taking care of visiting safari guests, I worked as a photographic safari guide, and spend every spare minute out in the bush with my camera.

In 2014 I started work with Jackalberry Safaris, who run great value safaris from their base just outside the National Park. In 2015, we will be relocating to a bushcamp site inside the National Park from where we will lead wilderness safaris into all areas of the park. I am also building up a thriving photo safari business. I now run several set-departure trips each year, and I also lead bespoke trips for private clients. If you are interested in exploring Zambia with me, as a resident guide in this area, please get in touch.

For photographers, this area is paradise. The dusty, dry environment forces huge concentrations of game along the river and creates dramatic light effects, particularly in the morning and at dusk. When the annual rains eventually arrive, clear air gives photos rich in colourful detail and the Valley teems with life and renewed vigour.

This website contains a showcase of the diverse wildlife of the South Luangwa National Park – a wilderness area widely regarded as one of the best wildlife reserves anywhere on the Planet. I also keep a daily photo blog documenting some of the extraordinary sightings that I’ve enjoyed over 6 years of life in the African bush. Many of my images are available as cards or prints on the shop page. Recently I have started producing high quality canvases which are available on request - please contact me via my contact page.
